Scott Bixler has joined EAA's Speakers Bureau. His program is on how to repair and refinish many of the plastics commonly found in aircraft interiors, wing tips, and fairings to a like-new condition. The program focus is on thermoplastics, like ABS, "Royalex" Polycarbonates and the like. Click the link to find out more about Scott's program >>

Be careful what you ask for . . . John and Laura Bundy recently bought an older Piper Cherokee. Barry asked them to share their flight from Salt Lake to Fort Payne. Here it is >>

Letter from Paul Proberezny, November 30, 2007
When I read through the history of your EAA, living every day for half a century plus, I truly know how time flies.

I want to share with you some of the thoughts of our members as they appeared in our Sport Aviation magazine back in 1963. The organization of dreamers, homebuilders and fellow aviation supporters building/designing their aircraft under the CAA/FAA 51% rule we worked so diligently for and earned is something to be treasured. One can build his or her airplane for educational and recreational purposes and friends can work with you for their own educational value. Really, we can build one half of it – the other half, such as engines, propellers, wheels, brakes, instruments, radios, items not normally within the capabilities of those who work with hand and mind can be purchased. Now we are faced with a situation of the FAA amateur building program being used for commercial purposes – from building complete aircraft or well over the half mark … not within the intent of the program given to us by those CAA/FAA folks who believed in us. Let’s hope we don’t lose this privilege.

Sincerely,
Paul H. Poberezny
EAA Founder and Chairman of the Board

Funding Overview and contact information

Funding Debate Bullet Items

President Bush Calls for User Fees
On November 15th President Bush presented his plan to reduce airport congestion and delays. Among the steps he laid out was a call to pass the administration's FAA funding bill that would increase GA avgas taxes by 263 percent and impose user fees.

The FAA funding issue has not yet been resolved. The House of Representatives passed H.R. 2881 - the FAA Reauthorization Act of 2007 - on September 20. On the same day, the Senate Finance Committee significantly changed S. 1300 to more closely match the House bill. However, S. 1300 STILL contains user fees. It appeared at that time that the administration's funding proposal had little support. However, this is a proposal that all general aviation pilots should be concerned about. Remember, once both chambers pass a bill, they will be sent to a conference committee to reconcile the differences where both bills can change significantly. Please take the time to contact your Congressional delegation about this issue. Tell them you support HR2881 as it was passed (i.e., no user fees). To see an issue overview, visit http://www.aopa.org/faafundingdebate

It is important that we make our voices heard on this issue. Contact information for our local congressional delegation >>
