October Issue
The monthly meeting for EAA chapter 890 was held last Saturday, October
13, at the chapter hangar at the Fort Payne airport. About two dozen people
attended. President Harley McGatha conducted the meeting.
Young Eagles - Thank you
A generous donation was received from the Woodmen of the World to support
EAA 890's work with the Young Eagles Program. Saturday was our quarterly
Young Eagles day and the nice weather and popularity of the program brought
a lot of families to the airport. We flew 41 Young Eagles. Special thanks
to JP King, Steve Coulter, John Isbell, John Shippey, Steve Bell and Doug
Carter for the use of their planes and time. Also thanks to Wilma Playford,
Steve Eberhardt and others that donate their time to make this a successful
program.
October Fly-in at Flying M Ranch
The annual fly-in hosted by John and Joyce Myers at the Flying
M Ranch was the first weekend of October. It was a beautiful fall day
that brought out about 36 airplanes and 120 people. As always the food
was excellent, featuring Wayne Goza's famous fish dinner, and the setting
was lovely.
September Breakfast
Our 5th Saturday breakfast was September 29. The weather cooperated and
turnout was good. We served roughly 110 people and 25 planes, with folks
arriving from as far away as Nashville. Thanks to all those that helped
in the kitchen and on the ramp, and those that helped with the cleanup
both before and after the breakfast.
Upcoming Elections
Buster McCurdy and Charles Jones have been asked to act as the nominating
committee for the upcoming elections. Wilma Playford has agreed to run
for Secretary, and John Isbell has been asked to stay as Treasurer. The
current Vice President will be asked to run for President. Anyone interested
in serving as the new Vice President should contact the nominating committee.
To review the by-laws and chapter
constitution (pdf format).
Christmas Party
John and Joyce Myers have graciously offered to host the chapter Christmas
Party at the Flying M Ranch. It will be the second Saturday in December
at 6 PM in lieu of our monthly meeting. Turkey and ham will be provided
by the chapter, and you can sign up to bring your favorite dish at the
November meeting. We will play "Dirty Santa" so plan on bringing
a wrapped gift (under $20).
Other News
Wilma suggested that we look into flying older people as well
as continuing the Young Eagles. Harley will check with EAA on the logistics
and insurance issues with that and will report back at our next meeting.
