September Issue

The monthly meeting for EAA chapter 890 was held last Saturday, September 9, at the Fort Payne FBO with about 20 people attending.

Airport Defibrillator
Bob Brown gave a report on making a defibrillator available at the airport. The request that the City purchase one for the airport has been tabled. It seems the city street department felt they should get one first. Please contact any councilman you know and plead for a defibrillator at the airport. We have a lot of public coming and going, along with workers, pilots and personnel. The cost is somewhere between $1200 to $1500. According to Jason Griggs there may be some excess defibrillators around town that are not being used. Also if you know Steve Cunningham, our fire chief, contact him for help. We need to do this before Sept. 18, as the council meets on the 19th to finalize.

October Fly-in at Flying M Ranch
John Myers will be having his annual Fly-in the first weekend of October. Wayne Goza will be on hand at lunch time to cook his famous fish dinner. John and Joyce have a beautiful grass runway in Shinbone Valley in the shadow of Lookout Mountain. Their event last year attracted about 75 airplanes and 200 people. John said anyone that would like to come on Friday and camp is welcome. You can learn more about the event and get directions to their place at their website www.flyingmranch.us

User Fees
John Bundy reported on the FAA proposals regarding user fees and their new funding plan. This is a proposal that all general aviation pilots should be concerned about. Please take the time to contact your Congressional delegation about this issue. Tell him you support HR2881 To see an issue overview or visit http://www.aopa.org/faafundingdebate/act_now.html

Current FAA funding expires the end of September. It is important that we make our voices heard on this issue. Contact information for our local congressional delegation >>

Christmas Party
Tenative date for the Christmas Party is set for December 8th (the second Saturday). This will replace the monthly meeting for December. Please send you ideas or location suggestions to Barry Wigley.

September Breakfast
Our 5th Saturday breakfast will be September 29. As always, if the weather is good we can be busy. There is plenty to do in the kitchen and on the ramp on these Saturdays so plan on spending some extra time and lending a hand. The EAA hangar will get a cleaning on Friday morning (around 9 am) -- this is always a big job so whatever assistance you can provide is always appreciated. Please contact Laura or John Bundy if you would be willing to help with the kitchen, hangar cleanup, or airplane parking.

News from Harley McGatha
Harley writes that he was in Vero Beach, Florida last Friday to meet with Piper. As President of the Comanche Flyer Foundation (CFF), Harley has been working with Piper as their primary contact for Comanche issues for the past four years. Harley says "I met with the new owner and ICS (International Comanche Society members) had a complete plant tour on Saturday to show off our airplanes to the current owner of Piper."
